Red Dot Award Product Design 2015
Hornschuch is delighted to have received its first Red Dot Product Design Award for the unique material skai® Tolaris EN in the category of Materials and Surfaces.
The upholstery material skai® Soroma Stars EN is reminiscent of the fine style of French and English royal houses of the 17th and 18th centuries. Straight, diagonal quilt-like seams intersect to create a uniform diamond pattern. The material appears quilted, but is in fact the result of an innovative embossing process. It gives furniture a stylish, classical elegance and as a wall covering, it looks chic and timeless. The delicate structure is particularly pleasant to the touch. The metallic color radiates a fine shimmer, which creates contrasts in modern-styled living and office areas. The award is widely recognized as one of the most highly regarded design prizes in the interior design industry. The Interior Innovation Award is awarded for innovative and outstanding results in all product areas within this sector.
The German Design Award 2016 has been awarded to something truly innovative. The skai® Tokio EN uses a highly precise laser engraving method to achieve a ground look with impeccable detail. Precision on a nanoscale leads to a deceptively realistic and non-patterned result. Lines are etched in opposing directions onto the surface, meeting at the diagonal and thus lending the material a vibrant look that is highly dynamic. The metallic colors of the surface yield a look of iridescence as the light refraction varies to fascinating effect, depending on the perspective. This unique material started the year with a bang, receiving the Interior Innovation Award 2015 – Selection.
