Cruise Ship Interiors Design Expo: Successful End to the Trade Show as the Year Draws to a Close

“Sustainability starts at the surface” – under this banner slogan, Continental presented a selection of its latest and most sustainable products and technologies at the Cruise Ship Interiors Design Expo in London at the end of the year.

Sustainability, ease of care and style – these were the themes that shaped Continental’s trade show appearance at the Cruise Ship Interiors Design Expo (CSIE) in London on December 4 and 5, 2024. And they did indeed resonate with the many visitors. This is why the sustainable skai® product innovations from Continental also attracted a great deal of interest at the Innovation Lounges Community stand.

The main focus was on skai® Evida Fiber, whose components consist of more than 90 percent renewable and natural raw materials, and skai® VyP Coffee, for which the surface expert Continental has successfully incorporated coffee grounds into the production process. “The demand for sustainable materials remains high,” summarizes Norbert Müller, Business Manager Interior Contract who is responsible for the Cruise segment at Continental.

The visitors’ attention was also captured by the new on-trend colors Buffalo, Bottle Green and Anthracite of skai® Pavinto artificial leather, which exudes a vintage charm with its used cowhide look, creating a rustic coziness in interior spaces such as bars and restaurants.

But the CSIE was not just about the look and feel: another important topic for the discerning cruise market is inner values – in other words, how easy is it to clean and care for the materials. And in this respect, our staynu® technology truly wowed the show visitors. What’s so unique about its special surface finish? It makes the materials extremely hard-wearing and resistant to soiling, so they look like new for a long time and also feel good to the touch.

So, Continental is bringing the year to a close with yet another successful trade fair appearance – and will back at next year’s event, too, when the “who’s who” of the cruise industry gather once again. Next time, however, the show will be “at home” rather than in the UK: for the first time ever, the 2025 Cruise Ship Interiors Design Expo will be held in the Hanseatic port city of Hamburg.
