“taste south!” – vacation in a color

A finca surrounded by wheat fields, ancient city walls that seem to tell their story to countless tourists each year, and endless sandy landscapes evoking wanderlust – the Mediterranean captivates, and not only through its architecture and scenery. This year, the region also inspired the Sustained Color No. 9 “taste south!” from the Colornetwork®. As part of the creative network, Continental lends an expressive touch to the earthy yellow-ochre shade in the form of skai® Evida Fiber, which impresses with a high degree of sustainability, as 90% of the components used in the high-quality upholstery fabric are made from natural and renewable raw materials.

If vacations were a color, it would be called “taste south!” – just like the Sustained Color No. 9 from the Colornetwork®.   This natural earth color has played an important role in Mediterranean architecture for centuries. In fact, this hue can be traced back to one of the oldest pigments that occurs naturally in a variety of shades worldwide: ochre.

The Colornetwork® color 2025 was selected by Antonio Rodriguez, a Spanish designer who has not only taught at the European Design Institute but has also collaborated with brands such as Hitachi, Mattel and Toshiba during his career spanning more than 30 years. Since 1999, he has been part of Matteo Thun Studio, celebrating major successes both collaboratively with the team and as a solo designer.

Color is proven to have a positive effect on the mind

Rodriguez drew inspiration from the Mediterranean region when developing “taste south!” The warm shade conveys the light-heartedness of a warm summer day, tickling the skin with thousands of rays of sunshine. The earthy ochre-yellow shade is reminiscent of a vacation on a finca in the Spanish mountains or in a villa near the ocean. Sustained Color No. 9 reflects the sunlight gently and flatteringly.   The color is proven to have a positive effect on the mind and captures the positive energy of summer in a shade that creates an optimistic, relaxed atmosphere long after the vacation ends, while simultaneously establishing a soothing connection with nature.

This aspect in particular – the connection with nature – is also expressed in the material in which Continental lends this color a physical quality. Because skai® Evida Fiber is arguably the most sustainable artificial leather in the extensive skai® range today. Around 90% of the components used are made from natural and renewable raw materials. The closeness to nature is also expressed in the grain, which features a fiber-like structure.
