Premiere: Continental at Clerkenwell Design Week for the first time
More than ten different exhibition venues, over 140 showrooms and numerous art and design installations in the streets, parks and similar locations – once a year, Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW) transforms the London district after which it is named into a kind of festival site for architects, designers and anyone else who wants to find out about the latest interior design trends and brands. This year, Continental will also be making an appearance here for the first time, presenting its latest innovative and sustainable skai® materials.
Colorful, wild and unconventional are probably the best words to describe Clerkenwell Design Week. So what does it involve? A series of events that attract numerous international visitors to the UK’s capital each year, where they can experience the latest interior design trends live and direct. This year, Continental will also be there for the first time when the Clerkenwell district is transformed from an ordinary residential area into the international hub of the design industry from May 21 to 23 2024.
The surface materials specialist has set up its exhibit in the “German Pavilion,” which is located in the “Catapult” building on the corner of Sekforde Street and St. James Walk, where it will draw in visitors with its innovative materials on a floorspace of 18 m2. The motto? “Sustainability starts at the surface,” which describes Continental’s consistent focus on the latest and most sustainable skai® products. But the subheading “And surfaces are our creative playground.” is also significant. It serves to describe in text form a world that will then reveal itself in its entirety to the visitor at the stand. And the maxim here is: touching and experiencing with all your senses is expressly encouraged!
Sustainability meets design expertise
With this approach and a reduced yet playful stand design, Continental is deliberately making an impression that will make skai® even more popular among young up-and-coming designers. That’s why Continental has four “wild things” in its line-up for the CDW: skai® VyP Coffee, skai® Evida Fiber, skai® Tovosoft EN and skai® Totexo EN.
With skai® VyP Coffee and skai® Evida Fiber, the surface specialist is even presenting two materials that, in addition to being visually stunning and pleasing to the touch, also impress thanks to their inherent qualities in particular – as they are entirely sustainable. With skai® VyP Coffee, for example, coffee grounds are incorporated into the production process, while 90% of the components in skai® Evida Fiber are made from natural and renewable raw materials. This environmentally conscious duo is complemented by others, including skai® Tovosoft EN. This material impresses with a voluminous flow effect achieved through its honeycomb structure. The result is a unique feel that invites you to touch it and get comfortable. The materials are then made into the perfect quartet by skai® Totexo EN. This upholstery fabric features a textile grain which, thanks to its fascinating matt-gloss effect, creates an elegant look with a technical-futuristic appeal.
