“Hotel and Healing Architecture” - Expert Panel From the Hospital to the Healing Building: Expert Talk in Stuttgart Dedicated to the Future of Healthcare Architecture

Healthcare meets wellness – according to experts, this is the current trend in healthcare architecture. raumprobe Stuttgart has devoted its attention to this exciting topic in an Expert Panel titled “Hotel and Healing Architecture.” The event was sponsored by Continental. With its skai® products the expert for surface materials presented a series of convincing solutions that fully meet the most stringent requirements of the medical sector.

Sterile and uncomfortable are passé. In future, a hospital stay will feel more like a visit to a hotel and promote the wellbeing of the patients at every possible level. Just how this can be achieved and what this trend means for modern architecture and interior design was discussed by around 50 architects and other industry experts at the raumprobe Stuttgart on July 13, 2022.

The theme of the event was “Hotel and Healing Architecture.” On board together with Continental as the sponsor were two renowned architectural offices from Hamburg and Stuttgart. While in his presentation, “Hotel Accommodation – a Project Report,” Dr. Christian Bergmann from Hadi Teherani discussed the topic from a hotel architecture perspective, Benjamin Ebbecke and Gabriele Roder from HWP Planungsgesellschaft mbH, together with Max Vogt from VOGT HWP AG focused on the healthcare aspects in their presentation “Accommodation and the Healthcare Sector – Building and Interior Construction with the Tübingen University Hospital as Example.”

The surface materials that could be used in these future oases of wellbeing were introduced by Elmar Zschau, Manager Architect Relations at Continental – after all, upholstery materials need to meet a whole range of requirements both in the medical and in the hotel segments. During his presentation, he therefore emphasized that the Continental products skai® Pandoria Plus (anti-bacterial), skai® Evida (sustainable) and skai® Toronto EN (easy-to-clean) featuring staynu technology are particularly well suited for applications in the healthcare sector. Furthermore, these materials, just like the innovative skai® VyP Coffee (sustainable and made with coffee grounds) are already frequently being used for feelgood upholstery within the hospitality segment in hotels, bars and restaurants.

The program was rounded off with plenty of time for networking over snacks and cool drinks. Elmar Zschau is extremely satisfied with the proceedings: “It was a really lovely evening with great speakers and many inspiring expert discussions. I am delighted with this very successful session. My thanks go out once again to all of the participants, the speakers and the raumprobe Stuttgart team, who made this event possible,” he concluded.
